We're Currently Accepting Resumes for Per-Diem Counselors

Who We Are

At NextGen Counseling, we believe in serious work without serious faces. We help teens and families navigate substance use, stress, and all the messy stuff that comes with growing up — but we also laugh a lot. We’re DDAP-licensed, family-driven, and powered by snacks, memes, and motivational playlists.

Who You Are

You’re the kind of person who can go from motivational talk to Mario Kart rematch in five minutes flat. You can tell the difference between sarcasm and sadness — and you know when to call a timeout (for the client or yourself). You’ve got empathy, humor, and just enough structure to keep the ship afloat when the waves get choppy.

The Serious Part (Qualifications, DDAP-Approved)

We are a licensed treatment facility, accordingly, we follow PA DDAP’s criteria for Counselors and Counselor Assistants, which means you’ll fit right in if you meet the following criteria:

Minimum Education / Experience

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field (bonus points if you actually enjoy documentation).
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 1 year of clinical experience in a human service setting, OR
  • Associate’s degree with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 3 years of related experience.
  • Must be able to work under DDAP supervision standards and comply with      704.7/704.8 training regs.

Background Checks / Clearances Required

  • PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • FBI Fingerprinting (10 Yr Nationwide Criminal History Check)

What You’ll Actually Do

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling for teens (ages 12+).
  • Help teens find healthy outlets, new coping skills, and better playlists.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, parents, and probation officers who are just trying to keep up.
  • Document sessions with empathy and accuracy (we promise we’ve made the      paperwork as painless as possible).
  • Be a  role model — but not a robot.

The Fun Part

  • Flexible per diem scheduling — we know life’s busy.
  • A culture that values humor, self-care, and snack breaks.
  • Supervision that’s supportive, not scary.
  • Opportunities to grow into full-time roles as our programs expand across NEPA.

What Makes NextGen Different

We don’t do “cookie-cutter counseling.”  We do connection — the kind where teens open up because they want to, not because they have to.

We believe a great counselor doesn’t just quote motivational posters — they become one.

Apply If:

  • You’ve ever said, “You’re grounded” and “I totally get it” in the same      conversation.
  • You can rock Vans or loafers with equal confidence.
  • You take the work seriously — but not yourself.
